Bio

I am a child psychologist in the Child and Family Psychiatric Service of the Department of Psychiatry. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1986 and was the first child psychologist hired in the Psychiatry Department. From 1989 until 2001, I served as the Division Chief of the Child and Family Psychiatry Service. Since 2001, I have continued to serve as a staff child psychologist. I completed my undergraduate education at Brown University in 1978, and received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Berkeley in 1984. I completed a two year predoctoral internship in the Child Psychiatry Department (McAuley Institute) at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco. After finishing my doctoral degree, I completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in both child and adult clinical psychology at the Meninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas. In addition to being licensed as a psychologist in 1986, I am also a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).

As part of my clinicial practice at Kaiser, I provide a range of psychological services to children, adolescents, and parents. In addition to performing individual and play therapy, I also provide family therapy and parent consultation. I also conduct a psychotherapy group for high school age adolescents. I also teach a class entitled "The Parent Project" in the Health Education Department. This is a ten week parenting program, offered 3 times per year, specifically focused on assisting parents in managing teenagers who exhibit some of the most difficult or troubling behaviors. Such behaviors include chronic defiance and rule violations, violence, school refusal or non-compliance with homework, gang involvement, and substance abuse. To join this program, you register through the Health Education Department at 393-4167.

To balance my work life with other activities, I enjoy road and mountain bicycling, playing guitar, as well as coaching and playing basketball. I am very pleased to work as part of an excellent and caring staff in the Child and Family Psychiatry Service. I am also proud to be employed by Kaiser Permanente, which is such a positive and health-oriented work environment.

If you would like to schedule an initial appointment with me or another mental health provider, please call the main Department of Psychiatry telephone number at (707) 571-3778. Once we begin our therapy, you can reach me directly at (707) 571-3700 during the office hours I am in the clinic. It is helpful when you call, to have available your child's Kaiser medical record number. In the event of an emergency and I am not in the clinic, call my phone number (571-3700), and once you hear my recording, press "0" and "#" and you will be connected to a receptionist, who can then assist you. In the event of a psychiatric emergency during the night or weekend, bring you child to the emergency room.
