Bio

As a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist, I have a unique understanding of the interplay between form (anatomy, biomechanics) and function (those things you want and need to do everyday). In my practice, I use this understanding to help you stay as active as possible, whether you are trying to run your first marathon, get back to the job you love, or maintain your independence using your wheelchair. I can help you to stay active and healthy.

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2002. I love working here for many reasons: intellectual stimulation, caring colleagues, abundant resources (including patient education classes and a wonderful health education library). All of these help me to provide the best possible patient care that I can, for you, my patient.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biopsychology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I also have a Masters of Science degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. I obtained my medical degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing and Flint, Michigan and then completed a 4-year residency program at the University of Michigan in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. At the University of Michigan, I published several journal articles and a book chapter and spent my final year of training as Chief Resident.

Interests

Any time I can get near warm water, I love to go snorkeling: I can swim and watch the fish for hours! I even talked my wife into snorkeling in Alaska!

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I was born in Detroit, Michigan. My dad worked for the car companies, and, as he was promoted, my family moved to new places. I spent several years as a youngster in a small English village near Stonehenge. Then later, we moved to Portland, Oregon, where I played lots of soccer as a kid. Finally back to Detroit, where I went to high school.

My children and people I care about:

My wife, Cherie and I moved to Northern California to be closer to her family (she is from Berkeley) and to enjoy the outstanding recreational activities in Sonoma county and northern California. We have two children: David, who is very energetic and Sophia, who likes to wave!

Travel

An adventure I've had:

We have done many backpacking trips: in Michigan, Canada, Grand Canyon and the Sierras, to name a few.
