Bio

For those of you unfamiliar with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians, we are a specialty group devoted to the care of patients with disabling injuries and disorders. Our primary goals are to assist patients in achieving maximal independence with optimal medical and functional recovery.

I am a Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist. I am also a Qualified Medical Evaluator of the State of California. I was born in Manila, Phillippines and have lived in West Covina, Southern California since undergraduate college. I graduated from Medical School at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and finished my Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency training at the East Carolina University-Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina in 2005. I pursued further training in Interventional Spine and Pain Management at the LAGS Spine and Sportscare in Santa Maria, California and completed the fellowship training on July 2006 and I joined The Permanente Medical Group the same month.

I am a fellow member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM), Association of Academic Physiatrist (AAP), and American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). I served as Liaison of the Resident Physician Council History Preservation Committee of the AAPM&R from 2003-2005. I also have authored and co-authored several abstracts presented at the AAPM&R and AAP national meetings.

I treat a wide range of disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system:
Spine pain (neck and upper/lower back), Upper and lower extremity pain, Nerve pain (carpal tunnel syndrome) RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy), Peripheral joint disorders (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles and feet). I have performed a vast majority of aggressive, non-surgical procedures such as epidural blocks (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), caudal epidurals, facet joint and medial branch block injections (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), and medial branch radiofrequency neurotomy (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), lumbar sympathetic injections for RSD, SI (sacroiliac joint injection), superior hypogastric plexus block for pelvic pain, endometriosis, celiac plexus blocks for visceral pain. I also perform diagnostic studies such as Electromyography-Nerve Conduction Studies (EMG-NCS) and Lumbar Discography.

My interests outside work include playing golf, tennis, and listening to jazz while having a good meal with my wife, friends and relatives.
