Bio

I have been living in Sonoma county since 1990 and love it here. I have worked part time at Kaiser Santa Rosa in Pediatric Urgent Care since I moved here and changed to full time in July 2008 after finishing 21 years as a Pediatric Hospitalist at St Luke's in San Francisco.

I loved working at a charity hospital in the inner city but alas their hospital service is closing down. I am very pleased to be expanding my position here at this stage in my life. Kaiser is the best at taking care of both physicians and patients. Most of my adult life has involved taking care of kids and their families at work and then going home to take care of my kids and their mom.

My wife has been very active as a clinical nurse specialist in Pediatrics and my night job in San Francisco allowed me to take care of my kids during the day. The kids are grown up and gone now so I can now dedicate more days to work.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

Pediatrics is my favorite field in medicine although I like all of them. It is a great pleasure to play with children when they are well and in fact often necessary in order to obtain a good examination. Modern pediatrics is great at preventing disease in kids and fixing it when it does happen.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

General and emergency pediatrics

Current projects or research:

Expanding my knowledge in preventive care after 21 years in emergency and urgent care.

Great health resources that I refer to:

I read journals on a regular basis and go to lectures every week. I have a large supply of current textbooks available to me and the internet has become very valuable if you know how to screen it. Google is good if you use the .edu and .gov sites.

An interesting story from my training:

I trained at University of Texas Medical Branch for my MD and did my residency in Pediatrics at University of California, San Francisco. While in San Francisco I had many crazy but interesting and educational nights at San Francisco General Hospital.

Interests

When not working you can find me mountain biking in Annadel or out on the Russian River in my kayak. I am also a big hiker especially in the winter.

When given the time I have been picking off day hikes on the 2500 mile Pacific Crest Trail. Endless pleasure.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I live with my wife and 2 cats and as many plants as possible. My wife is the clinical nurse specialist for the Sutter Intensive Care Nursery in Santa Rosa and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in San Francisco. She is a great friend and inspiration, not to mention tons of fun.

My children and people I care about:

My son is 24 and lives and works (and plays) in New York. We miss him and hope he comes back. My daughter is 20 and dances at UC Irvine in the dance department and is also majoring in international studies. They are both great!!!

Travel

An adventure I've had:

My wife and I are both avid travelers. We love the big cities and the wilderness. Mexico was our out of country trip this year and next year we plan to go to France while my daughter is in an exchange program in Paris.
