Bio
I was born in Santa Barbara, California and lived in southern California for most of my life. I have certainly spent my fair share of time in the sun, and had very early interactions with the specialty of dermatology as a patient.
I began my education at the University of California, Berkeley, where I majored in molecular and cell biology. I graduated from Berkeley in 1998, and did research for a year after graduation in Boston at Beth Isreal Deaconness Medical Center/Harvard Medical School. It was during this time that I picked up one of my hobbies - brewing beer. While I haven't brewed beer since medical school, since I had to get rid of all that bulky equipment, I've promised myself that I'll start again soon now that I'm settled in Santa Rosa. I did my medical training at USC, and had my first interactions with dermatology from the physician standpoint during my third year in medical school. I was immediately hooked on Dermatology. I loved the mixture of medicine, surgery, and cosmetic procedures that make for a challenging and interesting day. I graduated from USC in 2003, and matched in Dermatology residency at New York Medical College. This day was a major triumph for me, but was also bittersweet, because I had recently begun dating a classmate of mine, Laura, who is now my wife. She had matched, also in dermatology, all the way across the country at UCLA. By some miracle after completing my first year of residency at NYMC, I was able to transfer to UCLA to be with Laura. We got married, and after I finished my residency at UCLA, I stayed on for two years as academic faculty, where I taught the UCLA dermatology residents. While I loved academic medicine and the challenging cases that it brought, my wife and I decided that it was time to leave Southern California's busy lifestyle and settle in a small town.
Santa Rosa is exactly the kind of place that we were looking for -- small, but not too small, close to a big city, and it has lots of great nature around to enjoy. We look forward to raising our daughter Lena here and can already tell that she loves it (even though she's too young to tell us.)
