Fitness & Exercise

Fitness is for everyone, and best of all, it includes every kind of exercise. As long as you do it regularly, any physical activity can help you look and feel your best, and make you stronger and healthier.

Whether you're 5 or 65, it's never too early—or too late—to get started. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days. The more active you are, the greater the health benefits.

Fitness = Flexibility + Aerobic + Strengthening

To stay flexible, stretch all your major groups of muscles

There are three main components of fitness and a range of options within each. Flexibility reduces pain and tension, increases range of motion, and improves balance and posture. Aerobic exercise strengthens your heart and lungs. Muscle strengthening activities build muscles that burn fat.

Keeping Kids Fit

Lack of physical activity among children is contributing to higher rates of childhood obesity, which increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems. By enjoying physical activities together with your children, you'll encourage them to develop a lifelong healthy habit.

Enjoy the playground with your children

Children are encouraged to play actively for at least 60 minutes each day. Parents can help by being a role model. Go on hikes or long walks, ride bikes, play sports, or engage in any kind of physical activity with them. Limit sedentary activities such as watching TV, and playing computer and video games to one hour a day. Offer them water when they're thirsty. Cut down on sodas, juice, and other sweet drinks to no more than one can or cup a day.
