BioI spent my childhood and early adult years in suburban Detroit, went to college at Wayne State and Oakland Universities and moved to lovely San Diego after receiving a Commission in the U.S. Navy. The Navy sent me to George Washington University in D.C for my Anesthesia training. My Naval career of 12 years included Anesthesia service on the US Missouri, US Enterprise, US Tarawa and US New Orleans all in wartime operations. Arriving in Sidney harbor on the US Missouri and our reception there was a highlight. | |

More details about my specialty:While working in the intensive care units at both Pontiac General Hospital and Naval Hospital San Diego, I met several Anesthetists who allowed me to observe them in action in the Operating Room. It was there I learned and adopted their passion for Anesthesia and their special care of patients. |

I have enjoyed hiking to the top of Mount Whitney and Mount Shasta. From 11,000 feet on the western slope of Mt Shasta at 5 AM (on a clear day), I saw the shadow of Mount Shasta stretching out to the Pacific. It was quite a sight. I have attached a photo of one of Japan's best gardens--Kenroku-en in Kanazawa. My home garden trys to incorporate the tranquil look of a Japanese garden along with my wife's desire for a garden that "produces something" (fruits and vegetables). Not an easy task. Following my pasta craze, I am presently working on recipes modified from "This Can't be Tofu" by Deborah Madison (previously of Green's restaurant). I am modifying the recipes to decrease the fat and salt in my diet. Currently reading: |

An adventure I've had:I have enjoyed seven trips to Japan over the last 10 years and have visited more World Heritage Sites than any Japanese nationals that I have met (so far). My passion is to go to remote areas of great natural beauty in Japan. An unusual experience was walking among the wild monkeys at Yodanaka Onsen (Hell Valley hotsprings) in the mountains Near Nagano. |
