BioI was born and raised in what is now Silicon Valley. I remember climbing the apricot trees on the land that now hosts the employees of Intel and Apple computers. After graduating from Stanford University I traveled to Ohio for medical school, where, during the third year of my education, I fell in love with Emergency Medicine. | |
My Medical Specialty | |
More details about my specialty:I chose Emergency Medicine because I like being a jack-of-all-trades. Emergency Physicians have a huge breadth of knowledge. It is exciting and fulfilling to be able to save a life. It also affords me and my family a nice lifestyle in that I can take time off to travel or be with my family. My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:I also enjoy my administrative work as the Assistant Chief of the Emergency Department here at Kaiser Permanente, Santa Rosa. I like being involved in decisions and bringing about positive changes in the department so we can better serve our members. |

I have always been involved in sports, but once I began competing in triathlons (swimming, cycling and running) I developed a true passion that became a lifestyle. I started my triathlon career right after finishing college in 1982. For 14 years I raced in over a dozen races per year. Attending medical school in Ohio afforded me the opportunity to compete on the East Coast and attend some championship races there. While I stopped formally competing after the birth of my second child, I still swim with a Masters swim team and participate in a few swim meets and open-water swims. I also enjoy participating in some local 10-K running races. Bicycle riding is something I now enjoy doing with some of my Emergency Medicine colleagues from work. In the summers, my family and I love hiking in the Sierras. We have taken many family backpack trips in Yosemite and done extensive hiking in Desolation Wilderness. I believe strongly in learning about other cultures; understanding leads to compassion. Therefore, I have tried to travel with my children and husband as much as possible. We have loved our trips to Italy, Spain and England. Currently reading: My favorite book or author: Great movie: |

We have lived in Healdsburg since 1991. My children and people I care about:I have two delightful children, Haley, born in 1992 and Carson, born in 1994. Haley and Carson compete in local sports (soccer and Little League Baseball) and both attend local public schools. We love traveling as a family. An interesting story about my family or friends:My family and I are avid fans of competitive cycling. We love watching the Tour de France every year on TV. |

An adventure I've had:We have loved our family trips to Europe. Our kids have learned about different languages, currency and cultures. They also have gained an appreciation for art and foreign foods. We hope to continue our travels to other continents. One of my recent trips:We also like to visit family. My husband's family is in Ohio. We like to sail on Lake Erie. |
