Our webcam has been documenting the progress of the new hospital construction. We'll display new images as they become available.

Kaiser Santa Rosa's new expanded hospital will:

  • Double the size of the emergency department
  • Double the size of the intensive care unit
  • Provide a new interventional radiology/catheterization lab
  • Increase the number of licensed hospital beds from 117 to 195
  • Increase ICU, Medical/Surgical and obstetrics capacity.

Thank you in advance for your patience. We're working hard to increase access to health care in our community, better serve our members and build a healthy future.

Hospital Expansion, Construction Started Fall 2007

Hospital Expansion, Started Fall 2007

Kaiser Santa Rosa is Expanding

You may have noticed that there is a lot of activity going on at Kaiser Santa Rosa to prepare for the new hospital expansion. The new medical gas yard is being constructed in front of the parking garage and work is underway to relocate IT conduits to support the new hospital building. Scaffolding is being installed on the north end of the hospital in order to remove the outside wall.

All this activity means added noise, workers in space suits walking on scaffolding, windows covered in plastic along with other disruption in the stairwells of the hospital and affected departments.

Be careful out there and keep an eye out for changes to entrances and exits. Please pay attention to signs and construction site flaggers.

New MOB 5 Building

Construction crews will finish their work on schedule on the new Medical Office Building 5. By early August 2007, the building is due to be completed and supplies and equipment will begin to be brought in, according to Linda Challoner, RN, MA, Kaiser Santa Rosa director of capital strategic planning.

Patients will start coming in for appointments on the first floor of the building in December, and the ambulatory surgery unit on the second floor is scheduled to open in January, 2008. The new building will also include outpatient medical imaging, occupational medicine, occupational health and safety and physical medicine. In addition, it will accommodate rehabilitation services, which is the new name for physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.

When the new MOB 5 opens, several name changes will go into effect. The Richard Stein building will be renamed Medical Office Building 4. The entire campus at 3925 Old Redwood Highway will become the Richard Stein campus.

A unique feature on the campus will be a labyrinth and native plants garden, both which will open when MOB 5 is unveiled to the public in December. Labyrinths, which originated hundreds of years ago in Europe, are known as places where visitors can meditate, relax, and reflect. One path winds in circles toward the center and then leads the walker out on the same path. The labyrinth and a water feature will be located between the two medical buildings, MOB 4 and MOB 5.

Kaiser Santa Rosa Parking Construction

Bird's eye view of the new parking area

This bird's eye view of the new parking area shows the southeast corner lot of the medical center, at the intersection of Mendocino Ave. and Bicentennial Way, where construction of a new surface parking is complete. 99 new spaces have been provided for our patients in closer proximity to the medical offices.

The design of this parking lot took into consideration preservation of the heritage oak trees. Santa Rosa's Design Review Board, which closely monitors such aesthetics as traffic flow, entrances and exits, and landscaping, stated this parking lot plan was a superior design! Read More
