Doctor Runs Away with Honors
On February 5, Super Bowl Sunday, 100 Kaiser Santa Rosa physicians and employees migrated south to participate in the 2006 San Francisco Half-Marathon and 5K, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.

Kirk Pappas, MD, APIC, Health Promotion, congratulates Hilary Bartels, MD, assistant chief, Emergency Medicine, for winning two medals at this year's Kaiser Permanente-sponsored San Francisco Half-Marathon.
Some took a shuttle to San Francisco. Some drove. Some walked the course. Others ran. And everyone who trekked the scenic Golden Gate Park-to-Ocean Beach course was a thrivacious winner. Hilary Bartels, MD, Emergency Medicine, finished the half-marathon runners' route with multiple reasons to smile.
Dr. Bartels placed first out of all Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa entrants with her 1:30:41 time. She ranked second in her age group (Women, 45-49) and second for Kaiser Permanente Northern California female employees in all age groups!

The morning was chilly but pictureperfect for SRO's pre-race photo
The assistant department chief started running track in high school, continued at Stanford University, and transitioned to longer distances after college. A retired triathlete (swimming, cycling, and running), she still dabbles in all three sports.

Pictured left to right: Lani Williams, RN, service unit manager, ED; Karen Gnass, RN, service unit manager, FMS; and Justine V. Ngo, postgraduate administrative fellow, shared in the day's camaraderie.
Congratulations to Dr. Bartels, and to everyone who put their tennies to the test!
