Department Staff Go the Extra Mile

Dear Dolores,

I just wanted to tell you that Francis Balin has been a very important support to many of my patients and to me. I know that if Francis and Daniel are on a case that I can breathe a sigh of relief. I especially want to share a story about a patient of mine for whom Francs went the extra mile to help out.

My patient is a 79 year old woman who had a problem of mold and strong smells in her senior apartment. She was calling in frequently and coming in to the clinic on many occasions for anxiety, skin problems, breathing problems, and labeled a CRI patient. She was miserable, angry, upset, and feeling ill. Francis started working with her months ago. She is now living in a new apartment and doing very well. I just saw her and I believe Francis is directly responsible for helping my patient live out her final years as a happy, active senior. She was literally beaming with joy!

Thank you to your department and especially to all the social workers and health educators. I have many more stories of the excellent work of Edie Urteaga, Maria Gonzalez-Leon, Daniel Rei, Lydia Ruiz, Astrid Ortega, Patricia Camazan, and Slyvia Matthews.

Working with such wonderful people here at Kaiser Santa Rosa is a pleasure and an honor. It is not just the physicians that are coming to Kaiser, the quality of your department is also drawing us in and helping us to enjoy our jobs.

Thank you,
Kaiser Employee

Extraordinary Care in the Hospital

Dr. Schultz,

I am writing to express my admiration for the extra efforts done on behalf of my mother in the Kaiser Santa Rosa Hospital by Dr. Scott Yang and the cardiac imaging technician David Costner.

My mother was admitted with congestive heart failure. Initial testing seemed to show this to be due to irreversible ischemic heart disease. However, Dr. Yang decided to review the chart. Although this could have been put off, he decided that day to ask Mr. Costner to come in and help him do a further evaluation of the heart. This was Mr. Costner's day off but he still volunteered to come in and help.

Subsequently, they were able to diagnose the "broken heart syndrome" which has a completely different prognosis. Dr. Yang also was nice enough to call me in Seattle to relay the results.

I really appreciate the extra efforts from both Dr. Yang and Mr. Costner in providing the extraordinary good care which my mother received at your hospital.

Sincerely yours,
A Grateful Family Member

Competent and Caring Professionals

Dear Dr. Schultz,

I'm sorry for the long delay in expressing my gratitude for the excellent quality of care I received from two of your staff. Following a wrist fracture, I was treated by Chris Campanile, PA, in the Orthopedics Department, and hand therapist Nicola Haines in Physical Therapy. Chris and Nicki are extremely competent and caring health professionals. They helped me through a painful and difficult time, and are certainly a credit to Kaiser and their professions.

I also wish to thank you for my primary care physician, Dr. Laura O'Connor. After retiring, I would have transferred to Family Practice in Rohnert Park to be closer to home; however, I do not want to give up this caring physician who is always there for me.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Member

Outstanding Nursing Care

Dear Sir/Madam,

My husband was in the Kaiser hospital for 8 days and his nurse was Tara Longinotti, RN, for six of these days.

Tara was the most outstanding nurse anyone could ask for, she was not only very knowledgeable but just as important to us, Tara was kind and sympathetic to our needs. She always explained things in a clear and concise way but with great consideration for our feelings. She was loving and caring with a great sense of humor and a wonderful smile. I felt as if she was the angel who helped us through the darkness.

I am sure you know what a great asset Tara is to Kaiser, but I felt the need to share our thoughts with you.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Member

Member Services Role Model

Dear Dr Schultz,

I am taking this opportunity to apprise you of what an exemplary employee Ms Lisete Silva is. On my visit to the Member Services department, I was sincerely impressed with this young lady's professionalism, courtesy, friendliness and efficiency.

Kaiser has many fine employees that do a commendable job and Ms Silva definitely can be considered a role model.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Member

Exceptional Service

Dear Ms Janvrin,

I was a patient at the Kaiser Santa Rosa hospital. I have been a member of Kaiser for more than 20 years and have always received great service. I was sent a survey asking me to rate the treatment I received on my recent hospital stay and I wanted you to have a copy so you would be aware of the exceptional service I was provided with. I also wanted to mention some of the RN's and the nursing assistants that contributed immensely to the exceptional service provided to me. I only have their first names but they are in the 2 West Med/Surg department: Ellen, Gloria, Helen, Trudy, Lorie, Joe, Manny, Milca and the housekeeping staff.

While the survey asked my opinion of Dr Wagner, who was the emergency room doctor that saw me, it did not ask about the specific doctors who took care of me once I was admitted. Dr Hammer was the doctor that saw me on most days and I wanted to let you know she was wonderful and very good at explaining my condition and answering my questions.

I would recommend Kaiser Santa Rosa to friends and business associates.

Sincerely,
A Pleased Kaiser Member

Great Compassion and Concern

Dear Sir,

Too often in today's "rush about" pace, we fail to take the time to recognize and thank those around us that go well above what is expected of them. That having been said, I am writing this letter on behalf of my family to thank you and all the people in your organization for the care and treatment our father received during his stay at your hospital. Everyone involved with his care was very compassionate and caring to him and our family as well.

During his final days, he was made to feel comfortable and without pain and was always treated with respect and dignity. His care could not have been better. Just as important to recognize is the outstanding care our family received as a whole.

Even though everyone was wonderful in the treatment of our father, there were a few people that we would like to specifically recognize for their exceptional care and concern for our father and our family as a whole.

Lisa Quigg, David Peck and Kate Rowland all from the nursing staff on 4 East, stood out for their wonderful service to my father and our family. Each of them went our of their way to provide for our every need and should be commended for their incredible service. They made a stressful situation easier for all of us. Their compassion and concern reflected great credit upon themselves as well as Kaiser Permanente as a whole.

Again, on behalf of our family and our father, we thank you all for the wonderful service you provided us during our father's time of need. If everyone provided the same service Kaiser Permanente did, the World would be a much better place.

Thank you on behalf of our family,
A Kaiser Member's Family

Helped By Angels!

Dear Emergency Staff,

I was recently in your emergency room. My husband brought me in as I was experiencing severe abdominal pains.

The ER doctor was so nice and very thorough and the nurse on the shift that night was also an angel, very nice and compassionate. The doctor wasn't sure what it was, so he ordered a CAT scan which was a life-saver as the x-ray tech (another angel) found a mass on my left kidney unrelated to my pain, nevertheless still there and definitely needed to be addressed.

I simply would really like to take this opportunity to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart!! From the receptionist, Tim that came to get me with the gurney, and what a gem of a guy you are!

The x-ray technician who has the patience to be thorough and help save lives. The nurse who cared for us with warm blankets and of course the doctor! You are truly an angel and I am so thankful and grateful for such wonderful people!

Dr Paul Nguyen will be taking out my left kidney as the tumor was cancer. I am happy in the sense that we found it before it got too bad. I feel confident with Dr Nguyen and hope that this too goes fairly well. Thank you all again very, very much from the bottom of my heart and my family's.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Patient

Grateful for Co-workers Help

Dear Dr Schultz,

I am writing in regards to a great program that we have at Kaiser called the Lift/Transport Team. This program has been a big help to me and my co-workers. In my job I, as well as my co-workers, do a lot of heavy lifting and the lift team has saved the day many times. Some of the lifting that we do is very heavy and sometimes impossible. The lift team has a hard job to do as we all do, but since they have been here to help us, some injuries have been reduced.

I have heard that the patients here at Kaiser are saying what a big help these great guys are and I have to agree. I am so glad that we have them to help us. The transport team has also been a big help with transporting patients to be discharged or to x-ray or wherever they need to go. I am so grateful for all of the help that these great co-workers give me in my job, making it a little easier. I would like to thank the following for making our job a little easier, hopefully I haven't forgotten anyone on these teams:

Mario, Manager of Lift/Transport Team; Alex, Paul, Matt H., Matt R., Jeremy, Marlon, Ed, Justin of the Lift Team and Jody, Brandy of Transport. Also Ben and Justin in x-ray transport.

Thank you for the great job that you do!

Sincerely,
Kaiser Employee

Example of Your Wisdom and Humanity

To Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa,

I just want to express my appreciation to management at Kaiser Permanente for your hiring Dr Kenneth Lopez in the podiatry department at Santa Rosa. Over the past two months, Dr Lopez brought a great deal of technical expertise and human understanding to a very difficult occlusion in my fifth metatarsal, first completing a complex surgery and then guiding me toward a full recovery.

As I took my first bicycle ride in two months today, I thought of his care and wanted to share my gratitude with you (and him). I have been a Kaiser patient for more than 35 years now, and have always been pleased with your services – with this being just the latest example of your wisdom and humanity.

I wish you and all of Kaiser Permanente prosperity and success.

A Compassionate and Conscientious Therapist

Dear Dr Schultz,

We are writing in praise of one of your psychologists in the child and adolescent psychiatry department, Dr Joan Levy. Dr Levy has been following our daughter for the past several years.

"She turned our daughter's life around"

Dr Levy first started working with our daughter when she was a withdrawn, troubled teenager. When she was sixteen, she became more seriously depressed and possibly suicidal. Dr Levy recognized this and had her admitted to a psychiatric hospital for treatment. This was the turning point for our daughter and she has steadily improved over the last few years. Throughout her treatment, Dr Levy has been a trusted and calm source of support. She is a compassionate and conscientious therapist who must have one of the hardest jobs in the world.

Our daughter graduated from high school and has been attending Santa Rosa Junior College with great success. She volunteered for Americorps this year and loved teaching. She will be applying for a four-year college this fall, and is traveling to Indonesia for a month this summer. We feel that Dr Levy has played a pivotal role in her successes.

Our daughter is now almost nineteen and can no longer be followed by the child and adolescent psychiatry department. We wanted to write to commend Dr Levy's excellence, and also to thank her for turning our daughter's life around.

Sincerely,
Grateful Parents

Impressed by Detailed Knowledge

Dear Dr. Schultz,

A Happy Lady With Her FriendsI am a Type I diabetic who switched from using Ultralente to Lantus under the very able direction of Dr. Minkoff. As part of this process, Dr. Minkoff recommended that I track my food and insulin intake and then send results to Vicky McKay so she could advise me during a telephone conference. Vicky and I have had three of these conferences.

"Vicky was a delight to talk to each and every conversation."

I am particularly impressed by her manner of handling me and my concerns; her deep, detailed knowledge, and her ability to communicate concisely and accurately answers to all of my questions. I have dealt with other people in her exact position with far less satisfactory results.

I believe that I am currently on course to a 6.5 hemoglobin due to Vicky's skillfulness with me.

In addition to being so knowledgeable and professional, Vicky was a delight to talk to each and every conversation we had. I loved dealing with her.

What more can I say, except thanks for having Vicky available to people like me.

Respectfully,

Kaiser Helped Us Make Senior Peer Counseling a Success in Our Community

Dear Dr. Schultz,

A Friendly and Competent NurseI am writing to thank you and the professional staff at Kaiser who have supported Family Service Agency by providing training for our Senior Peer Counseling Program. I have been extremely impressed (as have our participants) by the depth of knowledge, commitment and dedication the guest presenters have shown. They are: Fran Bailin, Mickie Nelson, Eva Gratzinger, Jim Taylor, Mike Miller, Astrid Ortega, and Maryellen Curran. Dr. Curran deserves special recognition as she coordinated all of the presenters as well as secured a location for the training. Working with her has been a pleasure and privilege for Family Service Agency.

"I am impressed by the depth of knowledge, commitment and dedication"

Senior Peer Counselors provide a vital service in Sonoma County by offering free in-home paraprofessional counseling to adults 55 years and older. The program attempts to reach seniors before they experience crisis by helping them cope with problems related to isolation, grief, and depression. Studies show that such social support helps seniors remain self-sufficient and out of institutional care. The training your presenters have provided has greatly enhanced the knowledge of our volunteers and added to the prestige of the program.

Kaiser Permanente has played a lead roll in a collaboration that includes Family Service Agency, St. Joseph's Health System and Sutter-Warwick Medical Center in supporting the Senior Peer Counseling Program of Sonoma County.

Thank you for helping us make senior peer counseling a success in our community.

You Gave Me a Good Bit of My Life Back

Dear Dr. Steadman,

You did it! The head rocks are gone. What a relief!

Not only can I pick up stuff from the floor, but my whole general condition is better.

I am no longer weary, my eyes are clear, my head is clear. Hooray!

Your sense of humor and fun were much appreciated. You are one cool dude! So, thank you for giving me a good bit of my life back. I can shop again! I can bend down to pet a cat, or clean up a hairball. Wonderful!

Your Excellent Medical Service

Dear Sir,

A beautiful Pink FlowerMy wife and I moved out of your servicing area to Northern California and must obtain other insurance coverage. There are three physicians at your Santa Rosa medical center that have made our decision to move very difficult. Todd W. Weitzenberg, MD, Charles R. Barlow, MD, and Laura O'Connor, MD. They have all been very professional, extremely confident and most of all truly concerned about my health care options. I am sure that I will not find physicians to compare with their service.

"She is the most compassionate and professional physician that I have had the pleasure to know"

When we first came to Kaiser my wife and I selected Laura O'Connor, MD as our family medical provider. Thanks to her we quit smoking, and changed our daily routine for a better and healthier lifestyle. I am alive today because she followed up on leg pain that I was having. She is the most compassionate and professional physician that I have had the pleasure to know. My wife and I will miss her very much.

Thank you for your excellent medical service.

My Doctor Really Heard My Concerns and Took Them to Heart

Dear Dr. Howard,

Thank you for taking care of me on my visit. I felt like you really heard my concerns and took them to heart. I appreciate the time and attention you gave me relative to my recent challenges with my singing voice and my bloody nose.

"You really heard my concerns and took them to heart"

I felt like you not only took care of me but you took me seriously. I have found in the past that unless a physician is a singer himself, it's hard for them to know how scary it is when some physical ailment challenges our ability to sing freely. As a singer, I feel like I have an advocate in you, and I can't tell you how much that means to me. Thank you.

Enclosed is my demo CD. I'm getting ready to record a complete, full length, honest to goodness cabaret/jazz CD this year. I hope you enjoy this on in the meantime.

Sincerely,

P.S. Your nurse, I didn't catch her name, was also so wonderful, fun and attentive. She's a kick!

The Orthopedic Department Provided Outstanding Services

Dear Dr. Fujii,

Friendly and Competent StaffThis week, under the care of Dr. Moskovitz, I had arthroscopic knee surgery. This letter is written to commend Dr. Moskovitz, the Orthopedic Department and its personnel, and Kaiser Permanente Hospital for the outstanding services I received prior to, during, and following the surgery.

Dr. Moskovitz is wonderful! In my meetings prior to surgery and the day of surgery I found him to be patient, understanding, and totally professional. You immediately feel confidence in him and his ability. I was delighted that he allows his patients to be awake during this surgery procedure; this allowed me to concentrate on his taking charge of my knee and doing what needed to be done to correct the injury. I could feel the competence in his hands and knew he was doing what was needed in a totally professional way. Kaiser is very fortunate to have Dr. Moskovitz as a surgeon.

Many other commendations are in order: Jan Bond, Medical Assistant, was very gracious in answering my calls and establishing a date for my surgery. She too is patient and cares about those of us facing surgery. Ann Bruner-Welch is also wonderful! She answered all my questions during the pre-operation appointment and gave me good information regarding the procedure and follow-up time. She is a warm, caring person whom I immediately liked. The support staff of the Orthopedic Department is to be acknowledged too. Every person I interacted with was pleasant and caring. Special thanks are given to "Harvey" who taught me how to use my crutches. He was very patient and careful in giving me the size of crutches that would work best for me. A very good teacher indeed!

"Kaiser is to be commended for recognizing the value of guided imagery, affirmations, and music in the healing process"

The CD, "Preparing for Successful Surgery" is OUTSTANDING! I listened to it many times prior to my surgery and I am listening to it during my recuperation. Kaiser is to be commended for recognizing the value of guided imagery, affirmations, and music in the healing process. I truly believe that the tape helped in the successful completion of my operation. I believe that it has helped me during these days following the surgery. I am in my third day of recuperation. Happily I was able to leave my crutches the morning following surgery and I did not have any pain medication beyond the first hour of being home. I am pleased to continue to have only good things to say about Kaiser and am looking forward to a successful healing.

Co-Workers Keep Me Coming to Work Every Day

We had a fabulous service award this month at our Family Medicine Services staff meeting.

A Friendly and Competent NurseRoberto Bermudez, MA, has been one of our biggest supporters in using the 'dot quality' phrase. Recently he was rooming a patient for Dr Nuccion and discovered she was overdue for her mammogram. She resisted making an appointment and he respectfully pushed a little explaining why it was important, and that he could make the appointment for her right then. She agreed and he made the appointment which she kept. She was diagnosed with cancer and appropriately treated. She wanted Roberto to know that if not for him she may have waited another year. She was so appreciative of Roberto and glad to know that Kaiser supports this extra effort.

I just wanted to share this. This is what makes Kaiser so great and keeps me wanting to come to work every day.

Efficiency at its Best

Dr. Schultz,

This letter is to relate a sad event with a happy ending due to the kindness and patience of Joan Stagnaro, the receptionist at the Surgery Clinic, Suite 220, MOB West.

I had dropped off my husband for his 4:14 appointment at the Stein Campus, then buzzed over to MOB West for my 4:30 appointment. I parked, pushed the power button to "off" only to realize I had forgotten my purse containing car keys, Kaiser card, credit cards, etc... items that make life possible and impossible.

My state-of-the-art red hybrid Prius, designed to get 50mpg, would remain stationary without the "Smart Key" (which apparently requires a smart driver).

Joan Stagnaro listened to my cautionary tale. "Can you believe I forgot my purse?" "That's just stuff," she said, with a dismissive gesture. Then smiling, she arranged for my husband to be paged, keys to be rescued and for Security to transport them to me at MOB West. This required several phone calls, all executed with efficiency and tact. Joan even offered to fetch the keys herself if necessary since it was nearing closing time.

That kind of helpfulness from an employee deserves acknowledgement from me and especially from the Kaiser organization.

With gratitude,
Two Kaiser Members

Three Nursing Angels

To Kaiser Hospital,

A Friendly and Competent Nurse I was in the hospital earlier this year with pneumonia and complications. I had many different nurses, all were very kind and knowledgeable. Three stood out as exceptional. Terry McLaughlin, RN, was the first to impress me with his gentle nature. I was in a most embarrassing moment, yet he was professional, quick, and efficient in cleaning me up. Angie Aumell, RN, was very sympathetic to my distress, came back to share some persona ideas to help me cope, and had an angelic quality that made me feel safe. Cathy Kennedy, RN, was very professional yet nurturing. She hugged me when I cried and I felt heard. All three were angels in my hours of darkness. They were thoughtful of turning off the lights that bothered me and often came in just to see if I was OK.

I have never been in the hospital under distress, it is not a "restful" atmosphere, yet these three RNs made my stay as healing as possible.

I hope you know what an asset Terry, Angie, and Cathy are to the Kaiser organization.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Member

Chronic Conditions Kept My Hopes Up

Dear Ms Burden,

I would like to thank all the people in the Chronic Conditions department who have been so helpful to me in caring for my mother for the past three years.

I especially want to thank Brenda Lodge, RN, for all the many times she helped me get through the tangled web of doctors and pharmacies at Kaiser. She always kept my hopes up when I was ready to just quit trying.

I also want to thank Fran Bailin for all her help in finding a place for my mother to stay and all the paperwork involved. She was always available for advice and very kind.

Also, thank you to Judy, the receptionist, who always got my messages through to Brenda and Fran.

Cordially,
Daughter of a Kaiser Member

Competency, Care and Kindness

Dear Dr Schultz,

I wanted to take a moment to commend members of the Kaiser Emergency staff who treated me for atrial fibrillation during the weekend. Dr Joshua Weil and the two nurses who took care of me - Lauren, and, I believe, Carla - demonstrated tremendous professional and commitment.

In particular, Dr Weil not only took what appeared to me to be an appropriate approach to convert arrhythmias, but he showed great consideration and skill as a listener and communicator. I feel that the successful cardio-version was due partly to his attitude and abilities, as well as to his excellent technical skills as a medical practitioner.

I also greatly appreciate the competency, care, and kindness of both Lauren and Carla.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Member

Excellent Care in a Dignified and Humane Manner

Dear Dr Schultz,

I am writing to thank Kaiser Santa Rosa for designing an infusion center with a full-time pharmacist. As a cancer patient, I was and am greeted with a warmth and understanding and attention. In particular, I am writing to say thank you to Glen Buelteman.

I met him when I began chemotherapy for CLL. He made himself available every time I was there. He explained about each of the drugs, how they worked, side effects, things to watch for. He always took the time to answer all of my questions or the questions of my family and friends. Every visit he asked, "How are you doing?".

Later I began a course of Campath. I have had blood work done each week and have been checking in with Glen every week. Even though there is frequently a room full of patients in the lab for infusion, Glen had made the time to speak with me, check on symptoms, and offer explanations and information. When I experienced a few side effects, Glen was available by telephone to give me advice.

As I enter my thirteenth and final week of treatment, I want to thank Glen Buelteman, the entire infusion lab, Dr Zhang, and Kaiser Santa Rosa for providing excellent care in a dignified and humane manner.

Very sincerely,
A Kaiser Member

Thank You for Your Health Classes

Dear Dr Schultz,

I have multiple sclerosis. I have seen listed in the Health Education Catalog a Fall Prevention Class taught Omay Water-Schmeder, MPT. Today I took the Fall Prevention Class. I went not expecting much. I already knew to keep pathways well lit and electrical cords out of the way. I figured if I learned just one thing it would be worth the drive from Healdsburg. I was surprised all I did learn. Simple things can make a world of difference.

Just installing night lights that turn themselves on when I pass by means not having to remember to turn them on before getting into bed. Not to mention no more bending over to flip switches.

I had figured if I learned just one thing if would have been worth the trip. As it is, I counted seven things I can change to help avoid falls. Anything that keeps me out of the emergency room is well worth time spent. Thank you for having these classes.

Sincerely,
A Kaiser Patient

Priceless Support and Quality Care

Dear Kaiser Santa Rosa,

The purpose of this letter is to bring your attention to my appreciation of Ms Ragona's help during a very difficult time.

My doctor put me on disability for stress related and physical problems. I was not prepared to encounter difficulties with the private disability carrier provided by my employer.

Ms Ragona's calm, efficient, thoughtful and overall positive attitude helped me deal with a situation that was very stressful and quite honestly, had become more than I could manage on my own. Ms Ragona's attitude and assistance is a good example of quality care.

I was aware the demand the insurance carrier placed on me directly translated into extra work for Ms Ragona, and yet she went out of her way to cheerfully meet those demands.

I request that this letter be included in Ms Ragona's personnel file as a testament to her professionalism and compassion. I am very impressed, and would be remiss, if I did not acknowledge the priceless support of this quality care.

Sincerely,
A very satisfied member

In Good Medical Hands

Dear Kaiser Santa Rosa,

I am writing to let you know how pleased I am with the care I received from Dr Lydia Mertens and the entire team at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices in Rohnert Park. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and initially felt lost in the system, unable to feel confident that my health was being sufficiently monitored.

Whenever I had severe pain, I went to the emergency room for help. Since being referred to Dr Mertens and to the nursing staff at Rohnert Park, I have received excellent care. I want to especially acknowledge Ms Desiré Hart for her exceptional service, compassion and attention to detail. Desiré has made me feel that I am in good medical hands. She always answers all of my questions, monitors my medical health every time I see her, and makes insightful suggestions to Dr Mertens for treatment that might alleviate my symptoms. She routinely accommodates my personal schedule to see me at the clinic at my convenience. Desiré is a tremendous asset to Kaiser because of her professionalism along with her caring spirit for those under her care. I have never felt more confident that I am receiving the best care and support that I can with Desiré's assistance.

I fully trust and appreciate Desiré's professional abilities. She has provided instruction, training, and encouragement for me and my husband who helps with my care and medications at home, including injections. It is comforting to have someone that I can always turn to for information and advice. Since I have met Desiré, she has made dealing with my MS easier physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Most sincerely,
A Kaiser Patient

Outstanding Professional Care

Dear Kaiser Santa Rosa,

During the labor and delivery of our daughter, we received the most outstanding care, attention, and compassion that we could ever have imagined. We had some complications post delivery and needed to be hospitalized in both labor and delivery and post-partum.

During this scary time; from the initial stages of labor, to the wonderful delivery, to the scary surgery (evacuation of a uterine hematoma), to the post-surgical care and recovery – at every step of the way and with every person we came in contact with, we were treated with care, compassion, empathy and true attention. We have been bragging to the world about our great treatment at Kaiser Santa Rosa labor and delivery and post-partum care.

Many many thanks! Our beautiful daughter thanks you too.

Special thanks to nurses Kim Stork, Michelle and Amanda, Dr Amy Merchant and Helen Sirica, CNM for properly diagnosing the problem with my wife's bleeding, and a super special thanks to Dr Brad Golditch for his outstanding professional care in performing the surgery. Special thanks to the mountains of nurses that cared for us, especially Marie, Janelle (oh dear, there are so many more names that I wish I had written down). Anyway, super thanks to all!

Kaiser Santa Rosa is great!

Exceptional Work Exceeding Expectations

Dear Administration,

Would you please honor Dr Mihalik for his exceptional work exceeding the expectations of the Hospital Team and patient's family in providing care for my patient.

"He compassionately guided the family"

John spent 2 1/2 hours in family conference with a very complex family re: managing their poor father who had a stroke, bilateral amputations and numerous other medical problems. The patient was on Hospice, but was admitted to CCD last week because the family could no longer manage the stressful situation at home. John voluntarily stepped forward despite the fact that the CCD physician staff were actually caring for the patient, and dedicated much of his stay to proactively and compassionately guide the family, Hospice nurse and CCD staff to a resolution. Without John's presence, the patient would have further suffered.

As a result of John's care, my patient received excellent comfort care and passed away last evening comfortably in our hospital.

Please thank John for being an example of the compassionate, skillful physician leader that we all aspire to.

Thanks,
Thankful Kaiser Santa Rosa Physician

Delighted By the Kindness and Professionalism of Everyone on Staff

Dear Dr. Schultz,

I write to express my profound gratitude for the superb care my father got on 2West during his recent hospitalization. My whole family was comforted by the consistent warmth, generosity, and professionalism of everyone who helped us. Only an experience such as this can show how excellent of a hospital we have here.

Friends Discussing Great Health CareBeing a patient is the best way to see how we do our jobs, and I am in awe of the way our staff performs. Thanks to everyone.

Sincerely,
Anonymous

Dear. Dr. Schultz,

My dad was just discharged from 2 West after a week recovering from aspiration pneumonia and dehydration.

"You are doing a great job"

I must tell you how delighted I was by the kindness and professionalism of everyone on staff. The nurses, LVNs, RTs, physical therapists, and Dr. Ananias were so kind to him and to the family. Taking care of a parent of two PMG MDs can present a diplomatic challenge, but your staff did a marvelous job. I particularly remember Nurse Vicki, Kay, Jenny, and Dianne, but there were many others, gentle and kind to a person.

You should be proud of 2 West: You are doing a great job!

Sincerely,

Well Above the Call of Duty

Dear Dr. Schultz,

I want to bring to your attention the excellent care I received from one of your Pharmacists, David Wade. Mr. Wade helped me at the 1-West Pharmacy, Santa Rosa, on Saturday in the late afternoon.

"I received excellent care from one of your pharmacists"

I have a complicated medication situation, which sometimes confuses me. This was the situation when your Pharmacy was very busy with many patient demands. Mr. Wade went well above the call of duty in his patience and thoroughness, and even kindness and generosity towards me.

Customer service is very important to me. The service that day from Mr. Wade could not have been better. Please acknowledge his good work!

Sincerely,

Commitment to Quality Service

Dear Mr. Schultz,

A Happy ChildI felt compelled to write to you about the amazing experience we had at the Santa Rosa Pediatric clinic this morning.

"Each and every person made us feel that we were the only family they had to be concerned about."

Beginning with the call into the advice nurse at 12:30 am this morning, we were treated by a stream of friendly, thoughtful and professional staff that helped soothe our anxiety concerning our daughter's illness.

Each and every person made us feel that we were the only family they had to be concerned about. I left feeling as though there wasn't one person who could have been anymore friendly, compassionate, informative or genuine.

My husband is a consultant who specializes in customer service, so we are particularly aware of the strengths and weaknesses in this area.

The following employees inspired this letter: Sylvia Toler, Janette Howell, Dr. Rubin, Bao Mei-Sheeks, Sandy White, and Debra Peterson. Thank you for your obvious commitment to quality service.

Sincerely,
Anonymous

A Thorough Diagnosis

Dear Mr. Schultz,

This is a letter of commendation for Jennie Hartman, PT.

I had been suffering with an extremely sore shoulder for weeks when I was referred to Jennie Hartman. She did a thorough diagnosis. She asked questions, moved it and made measurements, etc and then told me what the problem was.

This reduced the anxiety level which always goes with the unknown. She then went on to demonstrate and have me demonstrate the exercises that would help the problem. She also gave me diagrams which had illustrations on just how to properly do the exercises.

In summary, she did an excellent job!

These are most helpful since it is easy to forget details and it is important to do them correctly. Her manner was pleasant – she wanted to help me.

By following her recommendations for several weeks, I have seen a significant improvement. In summary, she did an excellent job!

Sincerely,
A Very Satisfied Patient
