Bio

I was born during a New England snow storm. My practical, "Yankee" parents endured most of my mother's labor in the parking lot since, if she were admitted after midnight, she would not be charged for an extra hospital day! All went well in spite of this, and I had a happy childhood, the second of four kids.

I always loved school, and was a competitive "high achiever." I didn't decide upon medicine, however, until I was a junior at UCI, when I was inspired by Christian Barnard's autobiography. It was then off to Vanderbilt for medical school. While there, I was always one who loved surgery, and even considered cardiothoracic surgery for a time. I decided upon OBGYN, however, because I love the combination of being able to do fascinating operations, while still having the privilege of developing long and personal relationships with my patients. I enjoy working with women, and have never regretted my decision.

I have two kids and two big dogs. We live very informally on a big, rustic ranch, complete with natural flora and fauna, including the occasional rattlesnake.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I enjoy Obstetrics and Gynecology because it allows me to combine the advantage of long-term relationships with my patients with the challenge of performing necessary surgical operations. Working in "labor and delivery" allows me to be a part of each new family's joy, as well as the satisfaction of working with the bright, hard working professionals, midwives, nurses and technicians, who dedicate their careers to service in this fast-paced, intensive care environment

An interesting story from my training:

After graduating from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, I completed my residency at the University of California at Irvine. There, I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Dr Richard Klekman, who is the Chairman of the Dept of OBGYN at Kaiser Santa Rosa today.

Interests

My favorite book or author:
I am a voracious reader and there are far too many to list!

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I have a wonderful extended family including my still very active and healthy parents, three siblings and several nieces and nephews.

My children and people I care about:

I have one teenage son and an elementary school age daughter. They are the source of tremendous joy and satisfaction, in spite of their seemingly endless series of "life threatening" behaviors.

My pets:

Ozzie the "wonder mutt" has been a part of our family since we rescued him from "death row" at the pound four years ago. "Dahlia" is a one-year-old Yellow lab who has been with us since she was about eight weeks old.

Travel

One of my recent trips:

Most of my "travels" have been to visit family and/or friends. Two years ago, though, I took my kids to Mexico. A highlight of the trip was a breathtaking afternoon of swimming with dolphins.
