Bio

I am happy to be your Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology here in Santa Rosa.

I was born in Visalia, California and raised in the southern San Joaquin Valley. I am one of two children. I was raised as Catholic. I attended college at U.S.C. in Los Angeles. I also attended nursing school at Mount St. Mary's College and Pierce College in Los Angeles. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Sonoma State University in 1989. I have worked as an Operating Room R.N., a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit R. N. and a Public Health Nurse specializing in Maternal Child Health and Disease Control. I received my Master's in Nursing from Sonoma State University and graduated from the Family Nurse Practitioner Program in 1996. I came here to Kaiser Santa Rosa to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2000.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

As any of my colleagues will tell you, I love being here at Kaiser Permanente, and I love my job. I feel very fortunate to work with such a wonderful group of nurse practitioners, obstetricians, gynecologists, and certified nurse midwives. I have worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the field of Women's Health for several years. I chose this area because of my strong background in neonatal and maternal/child nursing.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

Peri-Menopause, Obstetrics, Contraception

Interests

My son, Evan, is my main interest. When I am not spending time with him, I am keeping physically active to stay sane. In my time off, I jog daily and try to cycle or swim or hike on a regular basis. I try and play golf on a weekly basis. Five years ago, I swam from Alcatraz to Aquatic Park and lived to tell about it. In 2004, I cycled from Seattle to Portland (200 miles). I ran my first full marathon in San Francisco, in 2005!

Family & Friends

People in my life:

My significant other shares my passion for health and fitness. We enjoy cycling together as well as hiking and running. He is a gifted musician and makes time in his busy schedule to perform for various organizations within the county. We also both enjoy reading and watching/discussing good films.

My children and people I care about:

I have a wonderful son, Evan, who is a teen. He loves to play guitar, ride his bike, and play soccer. We enjoy hiking and riding bikes together. I used to live in the Sierras, and each year we take a backpack trip to the Mammoth Lakes wilderness area. We also both enjoy snow skiing, although he is a boarder. This photo was taken of the two of us in 2004.

An interesting story about my family or friends:

My parents still live in the San Joaquin Valley; my brother and I are forever trying to get them to move over to the coast, but no can do!!! They recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary. We all congregated with my brother's family in Pismo Beach in 2004 when this photo was taken.
