Why I Chose Nursing
Science of any kind and medicine in particular has been of interest to me as a far back as I can remember. I was "stuck" in a lucrative career I did not enjoy. Finally I said "Now or never" in mid-life and went back to school. I love helping people to understand their disease process and how they can help their bodies heal or how to cope best. I love the teaching aspect.
An Interesting Part of My Job
Cardiac telemetry is of particular interest.
Biography
I originally thought I'd become a paramedic. I entered the 1 year program to obtain EMT certification at the end of which my instructor (an RN) talked me into pursuit of a nursing career. In the year and a half interim between that decision and the implementation (entering college), I was on staff at SRJC in the EMS department teaching/proctoring the EMT courses while continuing my insurance career. Then I made the leap in the fall of 1997, graduating in 2001 with my BSN. My devoted husband kept our world together while I was in school and working part-time. I've worked for Kaiser for the whole of my nursing career and can't imagine working anywhere else.
