Bio

I was raised and educated in California. After graduating from college in 1972 I indulged a passion for surfing for a few years before settling down. Working as an orderly in a large city hospital inspired a career in medicine. I started medical school in 1980.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I decided to become a surgeon late in my third year of medical school. I was most influenced by two of my professors, both trauma surgeons, and I started my surgical career as a trauma surgeon. After doing that for several years, I found myself missing some of the other aspects of general surgery. Kaiser has afforded me the opportunity to expand my practice in a very gratifying way.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I am a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

The American College of Surgeons and SAGES both have websites that provide information about many of the procedures I perform. They are well done and informative.

People in my life:

I am married and have two children. Neither of my children have an interest in medicine.

My wife has a large dog. I am permitted to feed, walk, and entertain him if I'm a good husband.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

The excesses, trials, and troubles of my youth I'll not trouble you with. Suffice it to say, I am older and perhaps wiser.

Favorite place in the world:

I don't travel much.
