Bio

I was born and raised in San Diego, California. My Grandparents had a house right on the beach front in Mission Beach and I spent a lot of time at their house.

I went away to college at the University of San Francisco. Two of my high school friends went with me, which made it an easier transition away from home.

After three years at USF, I started Optometry school at Cal Berkeley. I always enjoyed school; studying, writing papers, taking tests and still enjoy continuing education.

Because there were only sixty four in my Optometry school class, we all became very close friends over the four year course.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I was a Biology major at USF and one of my professors suggested that I consider Optometry as a career. I wrote to the school of Optometry at UC Berkeley and was very interested. It was a good fit for my science background and personality. I had taken some tests at the counseling center and they overwhelmingly indicated that I had the personality for some type of medical field.

Today I practice general Optometry (routine eye exams for adults and children) and low vision Optometry (magnifying devices for people with impaired vision).

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my practice is providing eye care for people over a long period of time - seeing the children grow up and go to college, seeing the adults go through the various stages of their lives. After twenty six years here in Santa Rosa, I have come to know some of my patients very well.

Interests

I enjoy photography, scrapbooking, cardmaking, reading, gardening, hiking, knitting and watching baseball, Hockey and Football. I read two to three books a week, primarily mystery novels, but some science fiction, biography, history and anything else interesting.

My favorite book or author:
I could give a list of about 50 authors I really enjoy reading, but I’ve narrowed it down to just 5 of my current favorites: Deborah Crombie, Sue Henry, Sujata Massey, Eliot Pattison and Peter Robinson.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I live in Healdsburg with my husband, Larry, and our cat Peaches. Larry is retired now, acting as "house spouse" and he plays a lot of tournament bridge.

Peaches was a stray, abandoned somewhere near our home. We took her in, spent a month trying to find her owners (in case she was lost)and then adopted her for our own. She loves bird-watching and gardening. Her favorite plant is the cat mint growing in our front yard.

Travel

One of my recent trips:

I love the mountains. I frequently visit Yosemite and the Mammoth Mountain areas. I also love to travel around the states, visiting National Parks and cities. In 2009 I went to Arizona for Spring Training and to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona and on another trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. This year I plan to go to South Utah. I also make pretty frequent trips to San Diego and New Hampshire to visit family.
