Bio

I was born and raised in West Texas, and have had the opportunity to live in a variety of places, including Central America in junior high school, followed by going to high school in Marin County and subsequent college in Texas.

My first career was as a Registered Nurse, and decided to go to Medical School because of my love of science and desire to pursue a deeper knowledge of the science of caring for patients. I have an interest in Internal Medicine, but it is in Psychiatry that I found my home as a doctor. It is a privilege to get to know my patients and work with them in a collaborative way to improve their quality of life.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I went to medical school in West Texas, did my residency training and fellowship in the Upper Midwest, and have taught medical students and residents in the Midwest and on the East Coast. After my foray into academic medicine, I chose to settle in Northern California, with its natural beauty and opportunities for activities in both rural and city settings. Having worked in a number of different places, I feel privileged to join a department with an innovative and dynamic mental health program in a medical center that offers integrated resources to care for our members.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I enjoy working with general psychiatry patients, but have a special interest in Addiction Psychiatry and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry. I am certified in Adult Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Psychosomatic Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Interests

Outside of work, I enjoy many of the activities this area has to offer, including visiting the mountains and shore, and enjoying the many cultural activities the Bay Area has to offer. I have an eclectic taste in music, ranging from classical and opera to country and rock and roll. I am also an avid reader and needle crafter. You may see me in the fabric and craft stores or public library in my off time!

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I have been blessed with wonderful family and friends, and the time I spend with them is the best part of my life.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

I love to travel, and have traveled throughout North America and Europe. I hope to experience a few more continents in the future!
