Bio

I am a diagnostic radiologist. I chose this field because I could use all the information learned in medical school and apply it to my daily tasks in imaging. I trained at Indiana University and Washington University (St. Louis). I try to practice "general" radiology and keep up with most areas within my specialty. With time, that has gotten more difficult to do since our field has expanded so much in the last 30 years. I have been in private practice in Santa Rosa since 1974. I spent one year working in Pakistan and got to travel around the world (something I promised myself to do) and then joined Kaiser Permanente in 1991.

Kaiser Permanente allows me to practice my specialty without any interference with third party insurance authorizations, etc. I can do what I think is in the best interest of the patient with whom I'm involved. I have subspecialty interest in interventional radiology and nuclear medicine. I was born in Europe and became a US citizen in 1957 and was educated in the USA. I have lived in and loved Sonoma County since 1974.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I started in Internal Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis and it was very demanding. I lost 30 pounds and decided that I needed a more structured life and chose Radiology (Medical Imaging today) in 1969. I love my area of specialty for all its innovation and diversity, and have never regretted choosing this field.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I have subspecialty interest in interventional radiology and nuclear medicine.

Great health resources that I refer to:

As strange as this may sound, GOOGLE is what I use and it usually answers the question I have.

An interesting story from my training:

Too long ago to remember. I have slept since then. ;-)

Interests

I am semi-retired and babysit three grandchildren every Thursday (great fun). I am working on restoring a 1959 Mercedes 190D. I am 40% done with that.

We help restore the flora at Goat Rock State Park with the supervision of the park rangers.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

I spent a year in Pakistan working and traveling. It gave me an early insight into the friction that existed between East and West and Islam and our way of life. It was an adventure that I cannot duplicate in the current times and current political climate.

Favorite place in the world:

On the way back home from Pakistan, we stopped at a lot of places. This is my list of "most liked places": Turkey, Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Germany, Egypt and Israel in that order. Each one has a unique feature and unique things to do and see.

One of my recent trips:

Vancouver, British Columbia. I saw whales up close. What a thrill to see 60 tons breach the water.
